We spoke with Simon, one of our swim teachers at the Royal Commonwealth Pool. Simon described Edinburgh Leisure as being a great workplace, allowing him to continue improving his teaching skills due to our commitment to career growth and continuous professional development plans.

Asked what he enjoys about being a swim teacher, Simon said: “The variation of each day means I’m always having to challenge myself to be even more creative. And interacting with a wide variety of people allows me to communicate through lots of different mediums.”

And the most satisfying element of his job with Edinburgh Leisure “Supporting swimmers in achieving that ‘click moment’ where they learn a new skill or stroke they have been aiming for, and the happiness that comes with being able to do something they couldn’t do before, assisted by us as coaches.”

Simon offers anyone considering a career as a swim teacher with Edinburgh Leisure the following advice: “This can be a truly rewarding career, and anyone with a flair for imagination and fun, but also a love of helping people grow and progress, will find this choice of career to be very fulfilling. You’ll work with a diverse, cross-section of the community, at every age and stage so being able to communicate in different ways is key - so be ready to speak, move, and maybe even sing, every day.”
